Supporting our Communities

Looking after the people around us

Safety is our business

The safety, health and wellbeing of our customers and staff sits at the heart of the business. Aquila’s principal value is being relentless about safety. Our teams think, act, and deliver safety in everything they do.

Regular safety checks and reviews help to keep everyone safe.

Our Health and Safety Management System is certified to ISO 45001 – the internationally recognised health and safety standard.

Air safety is critically important which is why we are accredited with the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Air Traffic Management (ATM) Approved Organisation Scheme (AAOS).

Looking after our world

We take full account of how our activities and equipment, and our customers’ operations impact on the environment around them. Choice of equipment, energy efficiency and sustainability all feed into the solutions we offer.

Environmental management at Aquila is about understanding how our activities and our customers’ equipment operates within the wider environment and a sustainable future.

We carry out detailed environmental impact analyses of our operations in all locations where we operate. We follow strict procedures for building, waste management and pollution control.

We are acutely aware of the importance, beauty, and fragility of many of the sites we operate on, including Sites of Special Scientific Interest and World Heritage Sites. Our Environmental Management System is certified to the international environmental standard ISO 14001. It also accords with the UK Government’s Project Orientated Environmental Management System (POEMS) for defence activities.

Supporting our communities

We are committed to supporting the military and our employees who serve as reservists. We are very proud that several of our team members are military veterans.

Supporting the Armed Forces Community

We are signed up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant – a government led initiative that enables us to back the UK Armed Forces community by committing our support through time off for Reservist training and activities and employ ex-military personnel.

We are proud to have been awarded silver status of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme in recognition of our support for veterans, reservists, cadets and military spouses and partners.

Supporting the Veterans Community

We support the communities we work in. In partnership with customers and with voluntary and charity sector partners, our team has raised over £3K so far to help support Armed Forces veterans.

We are currently supporting Combat Stress – Our teams have walked over 500 miles to help provide mental health support for veterans.

Our previous annual charities have included Blesma – the military charity for limbless veterans, and Hounds for Heroes – helping to provide assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of the UK Armed Forces and emergency services.

We are proud to have been awarded gold status of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme in recognition of our support for veterans, reservists, cadets and military spouses and partners.

“I am very pleased to announce that Aquila has been awarded the 2023 Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award.

The national award, part of the UK Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme is the highest recognition that can be given to organisations who employ and support members of the Armed Forces community and now places us in a unique community of companies that have achieved the award at the ultimate level.

At Aquila, we have the very good fortune to employ many military veterans all of whom bring invaluable experience and perspectives to our team. This gold award will serve to remind all of us in Aquila of our absolute commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, cadet force volunteers, and family members of service personnel.”

Looking after our people

One of the most positive actions for Aquila in 2020 was the creation of our first Gender Pay Gap Report. We are pleased to share our latest annual report and highlight important initiatives in 2023, when we signed up to the Women in Defence Charter and committed to achieving a 30% female workforce by 2030.
