Our teams work on either a 37-hour or 40-hour working week, dependant on role. Many roles have flexible start and finish times to suit your personal preferences and your other responsibilities. Some of our people who deliver critical services work shift patterns which may prevent some flexibility around start and finish times.

Company Events

Festive Celebrations

We celebrate our successes annually with a festive party. In the past our parties have taken place on the infamous HMS Warrior. As many of our team members are located throughout the UK, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands, team festive celebrations are also arranged locally.

Wheels and Wings 2021

This year Aquila was a sponsor of the Wheels and Wings event at Middle Wallop, Hampshire.

More than 200 employees and guests attended the Wheels and Wings Family Day event on Saturday 3 July. The show, which was held at the site of the Army Flying Museum, in Middle Wallop, featured over 40 classic aircraft and more than 300 super and classic cars and motorcycles; other, more current, aircraft flew over the showground throughout the day.

RAF Cosford Airshow

Aquila supports the Royal Air Force Cosford Air Show. The largest event in the West Midlands and the only remaining air show run by the Royal Air Force, the show includes a packed flying schedule along with many other static exhibits, stalls, trade stands, military demonstrations and children’s entertainment. As part of our sponsorship, Aquila exhibited in the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) Hangar, along with other sponsors helping to inspire the next generation of aeronautical engineers.

DE&S Family Day

The DES&S family day takes place annually at Abbey Wood. Over 200O people, comprising MOD employees and their families, attend the event which includes exhibits from most of the programmes managed by the DE&S, featuring everything from armoured fighting vehicles and shoulder launched missile systems to protective clothing and cyber security. Aquila attends every year with an exhibition on Programme Marshall.

Charity Fundraising Events

Aquila supports charities connected to the Armed Forces. Each year our employees have the opportunity to get involved with fundraising events. Our fundraising events have included quiz nights on the HMS Victory, running in the Brighton Marathon, a virtual 75-mile cycle event, competing in Tough Mudder, sky diving and zipping through the Welsh Valley on the longest zip wire in Europe. We have worked with charities – Blesma, Hounds for Heroes and Combat Stress.

Iain Ward, Central Region Maintainer and Brize Norton Ground Radio Manager

I joined Aquila in 2017 as a legacy maintainer at RAF Brize Norton. I had served 16 years with the RAF with a majority of time working on Ground Radio Equipment. I am employed as a Regional Maintainer for the Central Region as well as the Ground Radio Manager for Brize Norton Legacy team. I have enjoyed every step in my career with Aquila and find it fulfilling work working with an amazing team.

I find that the Regional role keeps me busy and each day is different. I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to ensure that the company and my colleagues are supported the best ways possible. The Ground Radio Manager role is a new step for me towards developing skills as a manager and a better understanding of looking after and managing personnel to get the best from the team. I am always looking for ways to help within the company to push towards a more productive and cost-effective working system as well as ensuring that the welfare of my team is preserved.

Emily Makepeace, Commercial Manager

 

I work as part of the Commercial team as a focal point of contact for internal and external customers regarding selected contractual matters. I manage a data base which tracks the thousands of contract obligations that Aquila has to comply with. I am also involved in work related to increasing new business for Aquila.

Aquila is a great place to work and Programme Marshall is a really interesting and important project to be involved in. I feel empowered in my role and I feel like I’m challenged and learn something new every day. Aquila is encouraging and supportive of my personal learning and development and working for Aquila has enabled me to achieve a great work life balance. I am proud to say I work for Aquila.

Kevin Nash, Project Manager

I have been working for Aquila since August 2015 and I’ve loved every second of it. I started working here as a Service Desk Operator and within 2 years, worked my way up to Project Manager.

I’m now currently working on Change Projects relating to air traffic equipment. Being a Project Manager is extremely challenging and attention to detail is key. Since I’ve been working within the projects team, I’ve successfully built great relationships with our customer. As well as our suppliers, parent companies and even within our own business.

My job takes me out of the office a lot so, it means I get to see a lot of the action that takes place in the field. Working out on the air field with fighter jets flying over head is a real privilege. It makes me feel really proud of the work we do here at Aquila in order to support our customer.

Aquila has a great support structure and it’s an incredibly welcoming place to work. I genuinely enjoy walking through the door each day. We’re currently operating a 22 year contract with the MOD and I fully intend on seeing through to the end.
